Push the connecting rod/piston assembly out through the top of the engine.

New pistons may not be necessary if the pistons and cylinder walls are not damaged or excessively worn, and the engine block is not rebored. However, new piston rings should always be used.

Rotate the crankshaft to bring the number one connecting rod journal to bottom dead center and apply engine oil to the cylinder walls. Insert the piston/connecting rod assembly into the cylinder bore with the notch facing the timing belt end, ensuring the "W" mark is oriented correctly. Gently tap the ring compressor to ensure contact with the block and carefully drive the piston into the cylinder while guiding the connecting rod onto the crankshaft journal, avoiding any force that could damage the components.

Check the connecting rods and caps for identification marks, and if they are not marked, use a small center punch to create indentations.

During the connecting rod bearing oil clearance check, Plastigage is placed on the connecting rod journal, and the rod cap is installed without disturbing the Plastigage. The nuts are then tightened to specified torque without rotating the crankshaft.
