    Q:
How to replace the crankshaft seal on the timing end cover of a Nissan Juke? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace the timing end cover oil seal, you have to first remove the crankshaft sprocket in the case. Take special care of the old position of the seal and remove it with a screwdriver or any suitable instrument provided that should not scratch the crankshaft surface. Otherwise drill two small holes at two opposite corners, put the self-tapping screws into the holes and use grips to pull the seal out. Examine the general condition and profile of the crankshaft seal's rubbing surface; if the face of a new seal is grooved or rough-finished, install it with slightly less interference to make it rub on shiny metal, not on worn lateg. To fit the oil seal, Nissan technicians use a special tool, which is a bar of a threaded rod with a metal tube and nut to hold the seal in place the tool must have a machined shoulder in it to align with the recess of the crankshaft. Nissan tool may not always be available but an RN can fabricate a similar tool when the Nissan tool is not available. Depressing the oil seal lips, scrapes the oil seal seating clean then using a punch presses the new seal squarely into place and using the depth gauge set to the specified depth as required by the applications. Once fitted, pull out the tool and the protector, reinstall the crankshaft sprocket again. For the flywheel end oil seal, one procedure is to first take off the flywheel, next put in a new oil seal with the proper tool for the job, and finally bolt the flywheel back on.

    Q:
How to remove and install the crankshaft seal in an engine/transaxle assembly on Nissan Versa? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the engine/transaxle assembly, then separate the transaxle from the engine. Remove the flywheel/driveplate. Use a screwdriver wrapped with tape to pry the Crankshaft Seal out, being careful not to gouge or nick the housing. Lubricate the crankshaft seal journal and the lip of the new seal with multi-purpose grease. Install the seal with the seal lip toward the engine and the dust seal toward the transaxle. Tap the seal into place using a seal driver to ensure it doesn't become tilted. Install the seal so that its rear edge is flush with the face of the engine block, or up to 0.020 inch recessed. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.
