How to disconnect and remove the automatic transmission assembly from a 1985 Nissan 300ZX?

Disconnect the negative cable at the battery and place it out of the way to prevent accidental contact with the negative terminal. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Drain the transmission fluid and replace the pan to keep dirt from entering the transmission. Remove the driveshaft, starter, and exhaust front tube. On the left side of the transmission, locate and disconnect the three electrical connectors, moving the attached wires out of the way by cutting the tie straps. Trace the two remaining wires to their connectors near the battery and disconnect them, leaving them attached to the transmission. Disconnect the vacuum line from the vacuum modulator and detach the metal line from its hold-down bracket. Disconnect the two cooling lines at the transmission case, noting the number and location of the sealing rings on the retaining bolts, and follow the lines to disconnect their holding brackets before removing them at the radiator, being prepared to catch any leaking fluid. Unscrew the speedometer cable from the transmission and disconnect the ground wire attached to the body next to the speedometer cable connector. Remove the cotter pin on the shift linkage and disconnect the shifter linkage from the transmission linkage. Place a jack under the engine oil pan, using a piece of wood to avoid damage. Remove all but two of the transmission to engine bolts and take out the dust shield located between the two components. Place a suitable transmission jack under the transmission pan and remove the two bolts retaining the starter support plate to the engine block, then take off the plate. Disconnect the torque converter retaining bolts, using a wrench on the crankshaft bolt to turn it for access to each of the four retaining bolts through the starter opening. Remove the four bolts securing the rear transmission mount crossmember to the body, then take out the two remaining transmission retaining bolts and slide the transmission back and down to remove it from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to fill the transmission with the proper amount of fluid and replace the pan gasket with a new one.
