The inhibitor switch enables the back-up lights to function when the transaxle is in Reverse and serves as a Neutral switch, allowing current to flow to the starter when the transaxle is in Neutral or Park. To remove the switch, raise and support the vehicle on jackstands, disconnect the transaxle control cable, detach the electrical harness, remove the switch retaining screws, and take out the switch. For installation, follow the reverse of the removal steps and adjust the inhibitor switch as needed. To adjust, again raise and support the vehicle, loosen the adjusting screws, and place the select lever in the Neutral position. Use a 2.5mm diameter pin for early model Stanza or a 4mm diameter pin for late model Stanza to insert into the adjustment holes on both the inhibitor switch and the switch lever, ensuring the switch lever is as vertical as possible. Tighten the adjusting screws evenly to a torque of 1.4-1.9 ft. lbs. Finally, check the switch for continuity to ensure the vehicle starts only in Park or Neutral.
