To remove and install the shock absorbers on a 200SX, open the trunk and take off the cover panel to access the shock mounts, then pry off the mount covers if present. Remove the nut at the top of the shock absorber and unbolt the bottom before taking out the shock absorber. For installation, reverse the removal steps, ensuring the rear shock retaining bushings and washer are positioned correctly. For the Stanza 2WD Wagon, raise and support the rear of the vehicle on jackstands, then remove the upper nut and lower mounting bolt from the shock absorber before taking it out. Installation follows the same reverse procedure, again ensuring proper positioning of the rear shock retaining bushings and washer. To test the shock absorbers, apply downward pressure to one corner of the vehicle until it moves up and down nearly through the full suspension travel, then release and observe the recovery. If the vehicle bounces slightly once more before settling, the shocks are serviceable; if it continues to bounce, replacement is necessary.
