In the 2003 through 2006 models of G35 sedan and 350Z, as well as all G35 coupes, both CMP sensors are situated on the back of their cylinder heads. On 2005 and 2006 G35 sedans and 350Z with manual transmissions, and on other G35 coupes manufactured from 2005, the Exhaust Valve Timing (EVT) control position sensors are also located here. The CMP sensor is positioned inside nearer to the intake manifold while the EVT control position sensor is located outside next to the exhaust manifolds. To replace a left CMP sensor for a model between 2003 and 2006, one needs not only to remove upper part of plenum but also take off intake manifold plenum from head itself in case of left head for model year of '07+. The right CMP sensor can be accessed without removing these components; however, they may need to be removed for more space. Push down on the release tab and lift up on the connector to disconnect electrical connector from CMP sensor. Remove bolt mounting sensor after which you could just take it out. Care must be taken when handling this CMP sensor so that it doesn't drop or metal particles should not stick onto its magnetic tip. Replace old O-ring with new one on old CPS Sensor before installing it back into vehicle. Reverse process applies when installing them again as opposed to taking them out in order to install properly in car during removal process. The location of these sensors remains at rear top portion valve cover for all G35 Sedan and Coupe (VQ). Similarly all such models have EVT Control Position Sensors at same spot. The innermost sensors are those CMP placed closer towards an intake manifold than exhaust where there outermost ones happen to be EVT Control Position Sensors. Engine cover along with air intake duct plus intake manifold plenum has to come off after which access is granted unto these two CMP sensors. Cut off the electrical connector from the CMP sensor, then remove the sensor mounting bolt which will let you bring out the CMP sensor. The same caution should be taken when handling this CMP sensor, and as well replace old O-ring with a new one. The installation process is a reverse of removing it. These two sensors are located on top and rear of valve covers in 2007 plus G35 Sedan and 350Z models. Likewise, the EVT Control Position Sensors are also located at this place on these models. The innermost sensors are those CMP placed closer towards an intake manifold than exhaust where there outermost ones happen to be EVT Control Position Sensors.
