Nissan 350Z Mass Air Flow Sensor

The Mass Air Flow Sensor in your Nissan 350Z checks how much air is flowing into the automobile's engine so the ECU can send the right amount of fuel in. Located within the intake path, this component makes an air mass or air density measurement and communicates this information as it varies in real time to the powertrain control module to maintain the air fuel balance. The signal from the Mass Air Flow Sensor allows the Nissan ECU to lengthen or shorten injector timing as the 350Z asks for more or less power. The Nissan system relies on the accuracy of the Mass Air Flow Sensor, the main air meter, to keep every 350Z responsive. Accurate readings will ensure smooth acceleration, steady idle, and efficient combustion. If dirt or oil contaminates the Mass Air Flow Sensor, the element may give false information about airflow. This can lead to hesitation, stalling, and the creation of rich or lean mixtures that illuminate the check engine light. The intact ducting helps the Nissan 350Z deliver predictable operation due to similar problems occurring further downstream of the unit. If your Mass Air Flow Sensor is working properly, you get good fuel economy.

Nissan 350Z Mass Air Flow Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Mass Air Flow Sensor/IAT sensor in the Nissan 350Z?
    A:
The first thing to do while you are dealing with G35 sedans and 350Z models between 2003-2006 as well as all G35 coupes is disconnect the air intake duct from the MAF/IAT sensor and from the air intake resonator, afterwards pull it out. To do this, depress the release tab that is located at the back of the electrical connector for MAF/IAT sensor. Take off also an air filter housing cover. It should be noted that you will have to remove four bolts when pulling out a MAF/IAT sensor from an air filter housing cover (1984). In case of removal, installation takes place in a reverse order. In case of 2007 and subsequent G35 sedans and 350Z models, you can unplug electric connector from MAF/IAT sensor. Then remove a bolt attaching MAF/IAT sensor and get it out of an air filter housing cover Finally, installation is the reverse of removal.
