Before pulling the engine and trans axle assembly out of the vehicle, paint match marks on the torque converter and the drive plate to ease reassembly; to get to the torque converter bolts, turn the crankshaft. Unbolt and unplug the wiring of trans axle and then remove the wiring of harness along with the dipstick tube and the trans axle bolts from the sub frame. Next are the removal of engine to trans axle bolts with care to ensure that they are placed in a venue where they can be easily located for reuse when reassembling the car.Removal of the trans axle from the engine next and sliding it a way so as to remove the torque converter ensuring that the open end of the trans axle is sealed to prevent the entrance of contaminants. For installation, clean the trans axle cooler and hoses with solvent that has no deposits left on it then follow it up with clean automatic transmission fluid. Prior to installation; it should be ensured that the torque converter hub was locked in position within the pump; and the front face of the converter must be recessed at least 1/2 inch behind the trans axle housing. Swivel the trans axle to the rear of the engine repositioning the torque converter in correspondence with the marks made earlier and raise the trans axle forward until the dowel pin and torque converter grippers snap-in. Screw in the trans axle mounting bolts to the appropriate places whereby they do not have to be forced to fit, and then tighten them as recommended by torque wrench. Secure and snug the torque converter bolts and as for the rest of the process just reverse the process, which was used for the removal. Add more of the specified fluid into the trans axle to the optimum level noting that due to torque converter in the trans axle it may hold a little more fluid than a mere change. Turn the ignition on and engage the parking break gear, rotate the gear shift through all forward and reverse gears three time to check the efficiency of the gear shift cable. Warm up the engine and keep the trans axle in Park or Neutral prior to checking the fluid level while the engine is off. Last but not the least, it is advisable to engage the vehicle for a road test and look out for any leakage of fluids.
