To work on the intake manifold collector, start by removing the engine cover and the cowl cover, then disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Next, remove the front air intake duct and hose, clamp off the hoses leading to the throttle body, and disconnect them. Label and disconnect the hoses and electrical connectors attached to the intake manifold collector and throttle body, including the brake booster vacuum hose, EVAP purge hose, PCV hose, throttle body wiring, and fuel injector wiring connectors, as well as the vacuum hoses from the VIAS system. Move the EVAP purge valve aside after removing its mounting bolt, then loosen and remove the intake manifold collector bolts in the reverse of the tightening sequence, taking care to clean the mounting surfaces and install new gaskets before reattaching the collector and tightening the bolts in the proper sequence. The installation process is the reverse of removal, and check the coolant level, adding as necessary. Reconnect the battery and perform the necessary re-learn procedures. For the lower intake manifold, relieve the fuel pressure and drain the engine coolant before removing the intake manifold collector. Detach the fuel rail and injectors, label and detach any remaining hoses that may interfere with the lower intake manifold removal, then loosen the manifold bolts in reverse order. Remove the manifold, taking care not to damage the gasket sealing surfaces, and use a scraper to clean all traces of old gasket material and sealant from the manifold and cylinder heads. Check the flatness of the top surface of the manifold with a precision straightedge and feeler gauge, replacing it if excessive. Install new gaskets, position the lower manifold on the engine, align the gaskets and manifolds over the studs in the cylinder heads, and install the bolts, tightening them to the specified torque in the correct sequence. Complete the installation in reverse order, reconnect the battery, and perform the necessary re-learn procedures.
